BioKolMet - Optimization of a New BIOCHAR Process for the Metallurgical Industry
The BIOKOLMET project (Optimization of a New BIOCHAR Process for the Metallurgical Industry) aims to improve the energy efficiency of the biochar production process developed by Harads Arctic Heat. The demand for biochar within the Swedish metallurgical industry has been documented in several roadmaps developed under the framework of the initiative Fossil Free Sweden.
The project
The project started in January 2023 and will be completed in December 2026.
The project is coordinated by Future Eco, with Harads Arctic Heat and Luleå University of Technology (Energy Engineering) as partners. The project aims to improve energy efficiency, primarily in the pyrolysis of biomass into biochar as well as the cooling of the produced biochar in the process developed by Harads Arctic Heat.
